The Mt. Rose Scenic Corridor outside Reno, Nevada is the gateway to the beauty of Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Views from the Mt. Rose Highway symbolize why people choose to live and work in the Truckee Meadows and visit our region. As I travel The Mt. Rose Highway from S. Virginia Street and Highway 395, the Scenic Corridor quickly moves me away from the urbanization and bright lights of the Summit Sierra Mall and other shopping centers and residential developments. I enjoy the views of the sage-covered Steamboat/Galena Hills and the tree-lined beauty of Slide Mountain and Mount Rose. I support keeping the Mt. Rose Scenic Corridor free from additional urban-style commercial and residential development. Over 140 acres of commercially-zoned land waiting to be developed already exists along the Mt. Rose Scenic Corridor between S. Virginia St. and Thomas Creek Rd. This is enough to serve residents, visitors and provide growth for new businesses. I request that new commercial zoning designations be removed from the Forest Area Plan. I request that new land use designations allowing high density residential zoning be removed from the Forest Area Plan. (This petition does not refer to or seek to discourage ski-in, ski-out condominium development at Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe.)
Keep the Forest Area rural.
I am opposed to zoning new areas for commercial and high density residential development along the Mt. Rose Scenic Corridor.
