Protect The Sacred Red Stone

Whereas, the sacred Canunpa (misnomer peace pipe) is made out of wood and also from a small piece of the Ihe Duta Sacred Red Stone, a.k.a. pipestone, which is harvested upon Ihanktunwan DaNakota (Yankton Dakota) Homelands at the Sacred Ihe Duta Quarries in the place today known as Pipestone, Minnesota, and
Whereas, it is against Natural Law to use a Canunpa and/or the Sacred Ihe Duta for display or decorative purposes; or to make jewelry or other trinkets; or for the purposes of art expression; or for any use other than its intended Canunpa use, and
Whereas, this rare, sacred Ihe Duta was gifted to the Nakota (Nakota, DaNakota, Dakota, Lakota; misnomer Sioux) People eons ago and is solely for the purpose of constructing the sacred Canunpa, and
Whereas, the Canunpa is to be cared for only by a most qualified Indigenous caretaker a most difficult, time-consuming, and dedicated duty, and
Whereas, the Seven Sacred Canunpa Ceremonies of the Nakota Nation come directly from a dream vision of a Nakota person and are conducted in order to maintain balance and happiness within Indigenous Nakota communities through a series of thanksgiving /appreciation ceremonial exercises which must be respected by all nations of the world, and
Whereas, many other Indigenous Red Nations have for eons made the spiritual pilgrimage to the Sacred Red Stone Quarries, or carried out international trade, to attain the Sacred Red Stone for Canunpa use among their peoples, and
Whereas, this most Sacred Ihe Duta of the Canunpa is in very limited supply and found only in this one single place, known as the Sacred Red Stone Quarries (a.k.a. Pipestone, Minnesota), in all of Grand Mother Earth, and
Whereas, the Sacred Ihe Duta of the Canunpa is in danger of extinction by greed, exploitation, commercialization, and mining by the u.s. government and a few of its agents and citizenry.
Therefore be it resolved that the exploitation and commercialization, through excessive mining, mass and commercial production for purposes of selling of the Sacred Canunpa (and false representations of the Sacred Canunpa) and the misuse/abuse through the producing, selling, and transporting of trinketry, so-called art expression, and all forms of jewelry-making of the Sacred Red Stone be immediately stopped, and
Be it further resolved that we encourage all tribal councils, local, state, and federal governments to adopt a pertinent law as to above which prevents the use of the Sacred Red Stone for anything other than its intended Canunpa use.
