Put the Western Spadefoot Toad on the Endangered Species List

Most people are unaware of the plight of the Western Spadefoot Toad. Their only habitats are the vernal pools reside in the highly-developed California. Sadly, most of the vernal pools that are left are slated to be turned into housing-tracts. Without government assistance, this toad will go extinct. In Sacramento County, nearly all of the vernal pools are going to be developed by a project bringing nearly 22,000 unnecessary homes to the already crowded Sacramento area.

Having this toad on the Endangered Species List will benefit the residents in this area because the last thing we need is more congestion on our freeways. Also, can we knowingly allow a species to go extinct so developers can make more money? Does Sacramento County really need all these cookie-cutter homes? When is enough enough? Does an animal need to go extinct for the sake of property rights?

This toad has lost more habitat than the Arroyo Toad who is listed on the Endangered Species List. I believe it's time we stop letting developers dictate what animals can be saved and stand up for this helpless toad. There is no reason good enough to allow this animal to be wiped from the face of the earth.

Please give the Western Spadefoot the voice it so desperately needs. Please realize when enough is enough and take a stand.
