After the complete washout of the Monsoon assembly session, it was expected that the normal functioning of the Rajya Sabha (and Lok Sabha) will resume at the start of Winter Assembly. Sadly, with just 8 days left, and important bills like GST, Mental Health Care Bill, Prevention of Corruption Bill , etc left to be discussed, can we let another assembly session pass without any reforms taking place?
It is in our day to day discussion. It is everywhere in the media. It is there for everyone to see. Yet, we turn a blind eye to it. It is a common practice to blame the government and politicians for our country's poor growth policies. But shouldn't we partially take the blame for its non-functioning? Shouldn't we do more to help the government function? Or should we just accept this petulant behavior and let our country suffer because of petty politics? The people of INDIA deserve more than this. We deserve more.
Democracy, or democratic government, is "a system of government in which ALL the people of a state or polity ... are involved in making decisions about its affairs, typically by voting to elect representatives to a parliament or similar assembly," as defined by the Oxford English Dictionary.
The above definition of Democracy becomes somewhat obsolete when we look at the current scenario of the country. Are we actually "involved in making decisions about its affairs" . Are we seriously involved?
It's time we raised our voice against this logjam. It's time we let the politicians know that such fretful behavior is not helping the country grow. The people of INDIA want a debate, a discussion on these issues, and not predicament. Let us raise our voice against this policy paralysis.
