We, the loyal fans of the Chicago Cubs, hereby petition the team owners and management to make significant, much-needed changes to the hierarchy of the team. Specifically, we request that you replace Jim Hendry; Lou Piniella; and the entire coaching staff. We request that this be done at your earliest possible opportunity. We further request that, once a new hierarchy is in place, you allow them to make any and all changes to the active roster as they see fit.
Our reasoning behind this request is simple. The current team structure is defective, as evidenced by the erratic, sloppy game play during the bulk of this season. Further evidence to support our cause include, but are not limited to: current position in the NL East and Wild Card standings; number of games below .500; and number and frequency of high-scoring wins by the Cubs' opponents.
