Reject Walgreens in Holden Center

We, the undersigned citizens, voters, and taxpayers of Holden, Massachusetts, oppose the destruction of intact buildings located on the 72,000 square foot parcel of land in Holden Center at 1133 to 1147 Main St., in order to build a Walgreen's pharmacy.
We are satisfied that Holden is adequately served by two existing drugstores within 1.75 miles of the proposed site. We argue that the rich architectural heritage, appealing pedestrian scale, and existing small businesses of historic Holden Center will be irreparably damaged by the imposition of an out-of-scale big box retail store.
The Holden Center area includes Hendricks House, First Congregational Church of Holden, First Baptist Church of Holden, Holden Senior Center, Gale Free Library, the Holden Municipal Town Offices and Town Hall, and the Holden Bandstand. Holden Center is also the focal point of our end-of-summer celebration, Holden Together.
We demand that our elected and appointed officials block this assault on one of Holdens most historic areas and that Walgreens instead select one of Holdens many designed commercial districts for its next store.

I think a Walgreens would be one of the most inappropriate usages for this site. Not only will it cause a massive traffic problem, it is not in keeping with the character of the town that our officials have tried so hard to maintain. Please do not put a W

I am concerned not only about the appearance but also the fact that our Main Street will be torn up yet once again in order to reconfigure Holt and Boyden Roads. That area of Main Street is already too congested!

one of the reasons we moved out of the city was because of all the congestion, banks, supermarkets, drug stores all on top of each other,we didnt like it. Brooks and CVS are fine. My family wont go there.

While I am technically opposed to this Walgreens, I have to say that the time for action on this was about 10 years ago, when a group of citizens with foresight could have rewritten the zoning for this area. The town fathers are not allowing this Walgreen
