Remove the 100 SMS/day limit introduced by TRAI

In view of the latest regulatory measure to curb telemarketers from disturbing the general customers, TRAI directed telecom operators to limit their SMS packs to only 100 SMS/day at the most, with effect from 1 March 2011. It also has begun a new series of numbers for telemarketers starting from 140. We hereby would like to oppose the limit of 100 SMS/day. It is irrational to enforce such a measure. TRAI has been indifferent to the school and college going youth of the country. The teenagers text more than they talk on a phone call, which explains why SMS packs are so cheap- they are targeted right at the youth, but are being misused by telemarketers. We propose that the SMS packs stay as they are, but not allow those who have activated any SMS pack to send messages to more than 50 or 100 numbers a day, but be able to send messages as prescribed under his/her SMS package to those 50 or 100 numbers. If such a change is made, both the customer is satisfied, and telemarketers will not be able to abuse the SMS packages. An Airtel customer will still be able to send 500 messages a day as long as his/her recipient list does not exceed 50/100 different numbers*, and so on for all the other operators. * Rs. 99/month SMS package (500 local+national messages free, daily) ---------------------------------------------------- Added by: smartflight on February 24, 2011, 6:02:15 am ---------------------------------------------------- As of now, I have decided to send this petition to TRAI. If rejected, I will try my best to raise this in the media which in turn might help us. I don't guarantee you that this petition is a sure-shot ticket to our normal texting routines, but I believe this is worth a try.
