Dear Senator Pavley,
Because you chair the State Senate Natural Resources and Water Committee we would like to request that you author a Senate Bill this year that will legalize ferrets in California.
As recent research from Sacramento State University documented that ferrets pose no threat to the environment, public health or agriculture. They cannot go feral in California.
California is only one of two states to prohibit domestic ferret ownership, yet we spend $5,500,000 annually on ferret supplies in this state. California is thought to have more ferrets than the next two top ferret owning states combined.
Prohibiting ferrets in California makes this state seem bureaucratic, out of touch with common sense and encourages a disregard and disrespect for our state government. It also causes fear in our residents that our pets will be confiscated and is a waste of state resources in dealing with an issue that is not a problem.
We respectfully request you use your position as Chair of the Natural Resources and Water Committee to help solve this problem.
