Safer Pedestrian Crossings on the Salt Creek Trail

The Salt Creek Trail is a wonderful resource, used by hundreds of jogging, biking, roller blading and nature enthusiasts each week.

However, we feel the crossings on Wolf Road and 31st Street are no longer providing adequate safety. We are thankful that the trail was built but it is INCOMPLETE and UNDER-funded as long as oncoming cars have no incentive or reason to stop unless they choose to do so out of kindness. During rush hour, when people want to jog or bike after work, cars rule these crossings.

Parents with young kids should not have to guess the speed of cars, wait for a sufficient gap, and navigate 4 lanes of traffic.

We desperately NEED a stop light, a yellow flashing light, a pedestrian bridge, full time crossing guards or a tunnel at these two crossings.

Traffic needs to flow on the roads but exercising people who enjoy the forest preserve need to flow safely as well.
