Recently, it was decided that the chemistry curriculum would undergo extensive revisions, which, as they are, would eliminate the second semester honors general and inorganic chemistry class (CHEM 2160); however, this class was, for many, extraordinarily valuable. Not only did it provide a solid introduction to quantum chemistry and bonding theory that was the foundation for a strong understanding of physical and inorganic chemistry, it also inspired much interest in these "other" areas of chemistry that generally do not receive as much hype and exposure, and might have in any other case been overlooked or disregarded. In particular, its position in the second semester freshman year was instrumental in catching early interest and motivating future study. Thus, we the undersigned, in forming this petition, hope to persuade you to reconsider the revisions to the chemistry curriculum and keep CHEM 2160 as a second semester freshman course. Thank you for your consideration.
