Save Cingular Wireless Barbados

It took the people of Barbados over 120 years to gain freedom from a regional telecom monopoly. AT&T Wireless / Cingular Wireless brought much needed competition to the market, along with another player, giving us a truly competitive market. It was no longer possible for any one company to gain TOO much power in our market. Cingular Wireless has truly raised the bar for Barbados by giving us the ONLY Flat Long Distance Rates in the market, the most comprehensive Post Paid packages and the fastest digital network (EDGE). Now there is a chance that Cingular may sell it's operations in the Caribbean to another company which already operates in Barbados. If this happens, it will be a step backward in the development of the Barbadian telecom industry. We will be a step closer to another monopoly. We can easily find ourselves in a situation where one company has TOO much power, nullifying the benefits of competition in the marketplace. We appeal to Cingular Wireless to please stay in Barbados and continue to raise the bar for our people as Cingular Wireless.
