Save City College Norwichs Campus Re-development

WE, the undersigned, call on you as a matter of urgency to put pressure on the
Government to release funds which will allow the redevelopment of the City College
Norwich campus to take place as planned.
The Prime Minister has stated on several occasions that the Capital Building
Programmes for colleges of Further Education will be vital to economic recovery in
the recession and it is hypocritical of the Government to spend millions of pounds
bailing out banks whilst seriously neglecting the potential workforce of the UK.
In 1997 there was no capital budget for Further Education (FE) Colleges and the
National Audit Office (NAO) described FE college buildings as "ageing and their
quality and fitness for purpose was often unsatisfactory, affecting the reputation of
the sector." This is a true reflection of OUR campus at City College Norwich!
Increasingly employers want more training in colleges to take place in mock working
environments, such as our Hair and Beauty students currently have. However if this
re-build is paused for greater amounts of time then, there is the worrying prospect
that the College wont be able to provide the level of training that employers are
looking and this in turn will affect thousands of future students.
We the undersigned urge the Government to release funds for this project sooner
rather than later, before it has a damaging affect on the future careers of thousands
of people both young and old.
