Save Grand Island

Yamhill County in the past has supported the Gravel companies and not the people (example: CC Meisel off Wallace road and the current Mining project on Grand Island). Is there any evidence these particular gravel resources are needed in Yamhill County in the next 40 years? Once the farmland has been mined it will no longer be able to be farmed.
Another concern is that the current roads are not suitable to handle the 30 plus trucks ROUND TRIP that are proposed in addition to the current residential, farm vehicles and current gravel trucks from the Dayton Sand and Gravel project. These large gravel trucks will be passing school bus drop off/ pick up meeting places, there is not any safe shoulder for pedestrians, bicyclists or runners from Wallace road all along Grand Island Road to the main intersection on Grand Island and there is a blind corner when driving from Wallace road to turn onto the bridge to get onto Grand Island. The Island was never intended to handle excessive amounts of truck traffic. It is a rural farming community not an industrial mining sight.
Grand Island should be maintained for the enjoyment of all the members of our community and for all that tour and visit. WE URGE THAT THE YAMHILL COUNTY PLANNING COMMISSION AND BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS WILL USE ALL LEGAL MEANS TO REJECT THIS MINING PROJECT AND OTHER PROPOSED MINING PROJECTS ON GRAND ISLAND.
We, the undersigned, are opposed to the rezoning of the tax lots 5314-100, 200 and 300, and 5315-300 and 400 from EF-80 exclusive farm use to MR-2 mineral Resource.
