Save Our Nonantum Branch Library

SAVE NONANTUM BRANCH LIBRARY PETITION

To Mayor David Cohen, BOA, Library Director Nancy Perlow, and the Board of Trustees of the Newton Free Library:

We, the undersigned Newton Massachusetts residents and supporters of the Nonantum Branch Library, respectfully request that you reverse your decision to close our Nonantum Branch Library. This branch is located in the village of Nonantum, also known as "The Lake." Our branch has served our village since it was built over 100 years ago. It serves students from Eliot Lincoln School, provides space for Italian Culture classes, Camera Club, Puppet events, English as a Second Language books, has a most wonderful librarian, Marishka and offers so much more to our community. Many children unable to drive are able t walk there to study after school. Seniors learn to speak english. Our branch library is convenient to public transportation and near to senior housing. We have many treasures of letters from children and adults of what this library has meant in their lives. With full continued help of the local volunteer grassroots nonprofit groups and with continued community involvement, we believe we can make excellent strides toward helping our branch library grow. We have joined with other library communities to share ideas with "Save Our Branch Libraries" coalition. We believe our library can grow with more after-school programs from our abutting school neighbors. Our library provides a quaint and safe community library place for children and adults with disabilities, and accessible services to all in the community. We ask for our to give us the chance to make our Nonantum Branch Library a premier example of success and model for all communities that seek to help their libraries grow. We ask that you reverse your position to close the Branch Libraries.
