Save the Fairhaven Mills

We the undersigned oppose the demolition of the Fairhaven Mills building. Though we encourage development of this site, we find the current proposal inadequate for the following reasons:
1) The mill is a highly visible and historic structure. Its ongoing development has a positive impact on this community.
2) The mill is currently occupied by several successful and innovative businesses. The owner is improving the building and seeking additional tenants, though many serious tenants have recently been discouraged because of fearsof its demolition. Two businesses in particular, New Bedford Antiques and Circa, draw visitors to New Bedford from all over the region.
3) The site is a key part of New bedford's waterfront. All waterfront development should be carefully planned with regard to highlighting this unique asset.

We urge you to work with developers to create a plan for this site that incorporates the existing Fairhaven Mills building.
