We all know that our state is in debt. Things need to change, and soon, before things get too out of control and our state goes bankrupt. By changing the NJ STARS program requirements, the money saved will only relieve a tiny portion of our state debt. It still leaves another growing problem hanging- the growing cost of higher education. By putting a cap on the family income, the student who would qualify would be more likely to receive money from the federal government through FASFA, which would be about the same as cutting the program altogether. For some students, the NJ STARS scholarship is a saving grace when they are not eligible for need based financial aid. Less students will stay in New Jersey, which is one of the reasons the program was started. Keep allowing our NJ STARS to shine!
