At the Oak Island Town Council meeting of March 14, 2006, an agenda item was added to 'dispose of certain town property'. When this item was raised and discussed, Councilman Jeff Ensminger made a motion to sell the lots between NE 41st and NE 42nd St. fronting Oak Island Drive, known as the "Compound". This motion was made with no advance notice to the citizens of Oak Island, thereby depriving them of their opportunity to voice their objections to this action. Council members Ensminger, Snead and Coffee voted in favor of the sale, with Council members Simmons and Royal opposing. Since that meeting, actions have been taken by citizens to protest this sale and to ask that Council rescind the action. If you disagree with the sale of the "Compound", please sign this petition. The signatures gathered will be presented to the Oak Island Town Council at the regular meeting of April 11, 2006. You do not have to be a registered voter of Oak Island to sign this petition; if you visit our island or have an interest in this matter, please feel free to sign. Also, if you wish to have the "Compound" made into a park for the use of the public, please state so in your comments.
