As you may have heard, Punch Taverns, owners of The Railway pub in Hebden Bridge have made the decision to sell the pub.
The Railway was hit by the floods in June and again in July, the pub needs a full refurbishment. Punch Taverns will not foot the cost of any refurbishment, despite not putting any money in to the place for years, the tenants are responsible for pretty much everything.
The pub's staff are all local and most are now unemployed as a direct result of this decision, many were holding out for the pub to reopen to get back to work. The impact on the local community will be hard; One less pub means less pubs for those who visit to go on a 'pubcrawl' (there won't be any pubs to crawl round soon), less people out during the day and evening which leads to a reduction in trade for takeaways, taxis etc.
Please sign the petition to urge Punch to reconsider this decision.
