Save the San Geronimo Valley Library

We, the undersigned, parents of Lagunitas Public Montessori program, The Open Classroom, Waldorf Inspired and Middle School and San Geronimo Valley Community members strongly support the partnership between the Lagunitas School District and the Marin Co. Free library in its current location for the following reasons.

#1 The Marin County Free Library is a vital asset to our community providing informational, educational and recreational materials to residents. While it is possible to use the Fairfax Library, it is not always practical for everyone to do so and is certainly more expensive both in terms of transportation costs, time, and pollution.

#2 Students need to have easy access to research materials and other forms of information. Access to information increases their learning and demonstrates our communitys commitment to knowledge and education. Sequestering reading books and research books in a corner of a classroom diminishes the importance of learning and education.

#3 The touchstone of democracy is free access to information. Closing the library would put an increased burden on many community members and we urge the Lagunitas School Board and Marin County to maintain and support the library.

Please sign the petition and then come to the first ever Friends of the San Geronimo Library special Save the Library meeting with the Marin Co. Free Library Director and the Marin Co. Free Library Facilities Master Plan representatives on Wednesday March 21st at 7:00 pm at the Community Center.
