Dear all ex pupils of Wyvern Community School.
You are urgently needed as ex pupils of Wyvern to give your names to the campaign to prevent Wyvern becoming an academy.
Whether you have fond or frightening memories of your 5 years at Wyvern is irrelevant.
Wyvern as we knew it is under threat from the men in suits who seek to turn Wyvern into a business where hitting targets is more important than the proper education of children. The academy system turns pupils into mere numbers, where in order to hit their targets they must dumb-down the curriculum in order for children to be seen as achieving the required standard rather than taking the far tougher option of actually bringing pupils up to standard and improving their opportunities in life. Already at Wyvern the new curriculum has been created which sees History, Geography and RE relegated to the history books to become 'World Affairs', a watered-down version of these core subjects. No subject has been left untouched and staff now work in a school where their feelings and opinions mean nothing and they're all left fighting for their jobs, all because Wyvern is a so-called failing school. Wyvern is performing no worse than it's partner academy John Cabot in Bristol despite what they would have you believe and parents and pupils are being kept in the dark as what and why this is happening.
Wyvern School is set to close forever on April 30th 2011 to reopen as Hans Price Academy.
You as past pupils have been given the right to have a say on the future of your school, you can stop the privatisation of our state schools, other schools around the country have successfully fought and won. Schools do not belong in the hands of businessmen.
Please sign the petition to add your name to the campaign. I will be submitting the petition to North Somerset Council early in 2011 on behalf of you, the staff and the current pupils of Wyvern.
CIRCULATE THIS PETITION TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW WHO IS AN EX PUPIL.
Thanks for your support.
