Shamsul Maidin to be included in last 12 referees

After the results of the 12 referees retained for the last 8 matches of World Cup 2006 are revealed, we are in utter shock that one outstanding referee has been left out, and he is none other than Mr. Shamsul Maidin from Singapore.
According to many observers, he has performed excellently in this year's tournament, and a rating system on referees has even ranked him as the first amongst all the referees so far. One such example is www.worldreferee.com and another is a very popular site, www.soccernet.com. To my amusement, I have observed that the 2nd,3rd and 4th rated referees on these 2 sites have been included in the last 12 but not Mr. Maidin, who's the 1st.
As Mr. Sepp Blatter said himself on www.soccernet.com: "If we want better matches, we need better referees as well. Because of that, we need to push for the professionalisation of the refereeing corps and spread the net in terms of who decides who the best ones are."
So why is the "best", in the eyes of many observers, left out of the last 12?
We sincerely hope that FIFA's referees committee can reconsider Mr Maidin as an option again.
