Please help to stop these evil excuses for human beings from torturing these beautiful animals.
I am not a vegetarian, neither am I particularly opposed to abattoirs, as long as they are run humanely and with dignity for the animals concerned.
What I found heartbreaking was the Sky News report today (29.7.11) showing the torture of these pigs, who were already on the way to being destroyed anyway.
The purpose of this site is to collect as many signatures as possible to present to DEFRA (Department for Environmental and Rural Affairs) to put pressure on them to take legal action against Elmkirk (Cheale Meats) Ltd in Essex, a slaughterhouse that claims to uphold high standards of animal welfare.
Currently DEFRA’s stand is that they will not take action against the company or the perpetrators because the video evidence presented to them was obtained by an animal aid organisation that had trespassed and placed video cameras on the premises without the company’s consent or knowledge.
The RSPCA is working to try and prosecute, but their hands are also legally tied.
There are numerous cases of successful prosecutions where illegal video footage has been obtained and presented in Court.
