Snowys Appeal

The Hawthorns is a small community in the middle of Mudeford, housing many families with young children and pets. There is a small stretch of road running through the houses where many cars race through on a daily basis, and many of the residents of the area are sick and tired of this blatant disregard for other peoples safety. There is a large grassed area where the children play on a daily basis, and with many cars speeding dangerously along the road, there is every possibility it is only a matter of time before there is a major accident. At least two cats have perished under the wheels of speeding vehicles and others injured over the past few years without the drivers even stopping, and many residents are tired of this and believe something should be done to slow the traffic that travels along the road.

On the second of June, 2009, at roughly 7:30, a passing car (that was seen speeding along the road by a witness) hit a cat who subsequently died minutes later. A young boy, only seven years of age witnessed the incident and was left sobbing in his mothers arms, extremely upset by what he had seen. The cat, Snowy, was well-known around the area and many of the residents recognized him as having road sense (he would never walk out into the road if a car was nearby). I (Sarah Hearn) was Snowys owner and am deeply saddened by this tragic incident. Snowy would never cross the road when a car was passing and I am extremely surprised that he was hit, which I strongly believe was due to a speeding car. I am also deeply saddened by the fact that whoever was driving the car that hit him did not even stop to check if he was alright. I, and many other residents of the Hawthorns and surrounding area, believe that something should finally be done to slow down the vehicles using this road that is frequently surrounded by young children, their families and pets. Snowy will be sadly missed by many, and he was never thought of as a pet; he was a well-loved member of the family. Please help in finally bringing these near-misses and tragedies to a stop by signing this and telling the people who have the power to change it.
