St. Christopher School - School Uniform Vote Results - Too Close To Call

In October 2009, St. Christopher School communicated an Action Plan to the school community in regard to the School Uniform Policy developed by the Halton Catholic District School Board. In the weeks that followed a committee was developed and the process as outlined in the policy was initiated.
On December 14, 2009, results of the school uniform votes were published and distributed. The results were as follows:
Ballots Sent: 391
Ballots Completed: 348
Yes: 226 (65\%)
No: 122 (35\%)
Conclusions / Observations:
An overwhelming 65\% of the community voted for the adaptation of school uniforms. Because Board policy states that 2/3 must vote in favor, the requirement was not met and the initiative cannot be revisited for 3 years. The votes in favor were short by less than 2\% or 7 votes.
A significant amount of ballots were not returned V a total of 43 or 11\%. It is understood that these families were not individually contacted to provide reminders of the ballot due dates (this process is accepted as expressed in the Board policy). Taking into consideration the closeness of the results as noted above, obtaining these completed ballots may have provided different results. An assumption either way should not be made.
It is understood that the counting of ballots was done discreetly without witnesses from the committee members or community. In maintaining the integrity of the process, it is believed that a minimum of (3) three people should be present in the counting of ballots to witness the count and have the opportunity to physically assess the individual ballots for validity. For example, a ballot signed solely by a student would be considered a void ballot as per Board policy.
Taking the results and noted items above into consideration, it is believed that the results of this voting process are simply too close to call. Again, an overwhelming 65\% of voters are in favor of adapting a school uniform, this fact can not and should not be ignored for another 3 years.
The intention of this petition is to request the opportunity for a re-vote from the Halton Catholic District School Board. If you are in agreement, please sign this petition and pass it on. If enough signatures are obtained than this petition will be presented to the Board/Superintendent/Principal for their consideration of the request.
