Stop broadcasting of the movie 300

We the undersigned, through this petition, protest the broadcasting of the movie 300 produced by Warner Brothers Pictures on HBO channel by Astro in Malaysia.


This e-script is written to encourage all Iranians to preserve their own culture against who want/s/ed to insult Iranian civilization by any irresponsible, unethical and unscientific actions.

It is a proven scholarly fact that the Persian Empire in 480 B.C was the most magnificent and civilized empire. Established by the Cyrus the great, the writer of the first human right declaration, Persians ruled over significant portions of Greater Iran, the east modern Afghanistan and beyond into central Asia; in the north and west all of Asia Minor (modern Turkey), the upper Balkans peninsula (Thrace), and most of the Black Sea coastal regions; in the west and southwest the territories of modern Iraq, northern Saudi-Arabia, Jordan, Israel, Lebanon, Syria, all significant population centers of ancient Egypt and as far west as portions of Libya. Based on the Zoroastrian doctrine, it was the strong emphasis on honesty and integrity that gave the ancient Persians credibility to rule the world, even in the eyes of the people belonging to the conquered nations (Herodotus, mid 5th century B.C).

Regarding to the recent advertising on the movie 300, it is indeed a fact that the movie is just based on a sheer graphic novel by Frank Miller which dramatizes the battle of Thermopylae in which King Leonidas and 300 Spartans fight against Xerxes and his Persian army. Most regrettably, Xerxes and his army are shown as monster-like men, with attire and attitudes that can only be seen among demons. It is obvious that no research has been conducted on behalf of the studio or the writer of this fiction epic, and sometimes it even seems as if attempts have been made to purposefully insult to Ancient Persians. Previously, exactly when the movie 300 was made, Dr. Hamed Vahdati Nasab decided to start a petition against the film 300 and within that time, collected 50700 signatures (ref. http://www.petitiononline.com/wpci96c/petition.html). Hence, we demand for ceasing the advertisements on broadcasting this inaccurate movie instantly and doing the historical review.

We also do recommend to all, instead of 300 and other unreliable movies, broadcast successful and most scientific documentaries about Ancient Persia like The Fall of the Great Empires, Storm over Persia, bestows a human face on once magnificent empires and let the valued audiences witness the dignity of Ancient Persia.
