Stop Domestic Abuse and Harassment

Women who leave abusive relationships have little protection from ongoing harassment including: daily threats, insults and other intimidations. Pro-charging policies may indeed help in the cases of Domestic (physical) Violence but there is evidence that other forms of abuse, particularly emotional, might be further incited by arrests, which are usually dropped due to lack of evidence of "real" abuse. Abuse may last for several years, with little recourse. We are calling for a widening of the notion of Criminal Harassment to include ongoing harassment or the addition of new criminal codes. We are also asking for a review of the legal policies and their effects on women who suffer from abuse.

Petition Background

Many women leave abusive relationships but are not able to end the abuse directed towards them. We have few social and legal structures to deal with emotional and psychological torture. I am a researching faculty at small University where my team and I are dedicated to intervening on the wicked problem of domestic abuse.
