STOP KILLING OUR PETS

In February 2008, dog and cat owners believed the tainted dog/cat food scare was over. In February, 2008, we learned differently. Today, February 23, 2008, we have just been informed that a good friend's Springer Spaniel dog has passed away after days of heroic efforts to save him. He died of renal failure. His owners did not know they were slowly poisoning him with Del Monte Jerky Dog Treats. They are heartbroken, outraged and dismayed. The dog treats were purchased recently. Packages of this poison can still be found on store shelves as the writer of this petition just discovered. If these treats were recalled on a mandatory basis, and not a "voluntary" basis, maybe this dog would not have died.
In May of 2007, the organizers of this Petition, rushed one of their dogs to the vet when they noticed symptoms similar to kidney failure. One of the recalled IAM's dog foods had been fed to their animals the week prior to this incident. Fortunately, the dog's diagnosis was good. Other pet owners were not so lucky.
We, the owners and lovers of dogs and cats, petition every governmental agency to step up and take responsibility to STOP KILLING OUR PETS! Most importantly, the Food and Drug Administration has to increase efforts to stop the importing of the poisons, stop the manufacturers here in the US from using poor quality ingredients, and stop the retail stores from selling these items. If there is even the slightest chance that a product is tainted, that product should be removed IMMEDIATELY. If retail stores do not remove tainted or possible tainted items, they should be highly fined. The stores do not care about our pets. We, as owners and lovers of pets, must speak for them. If these same stores face stiff fines, maybe the dollar will also speak for them.
Sincerely,
