It's been 3 years since the atrocious genre movies by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer began. It started with Date Movie, then Epic Movie and their latest dumping "Meet the Spartans" is further evidence that they have zero intention of making a quality product. It's not that parody movies aren't good all together, Airplane is a great example of how potentially entertaining and witty they can be. With streaming video and basic conversation skills for that matter, there's no reason we need these trite "comedies" to tell us what should be lampooned.
Unfortunately, this isn't a matter of quality, it's a matter of profitability. Thanks to Fair Use, these parody movies are completely immune to copyright laws, thus making them very cheap to make. As a result, these films take advantage of curious patrons who are duped into thinking these films are worth 9 dollars.
If a studio believes a film will not be marketable, the film never manifests. These are the people who have agreed not to support these lazy and just plain stupid films.
