Petition to the San Carlos City Council in opposition to the Palo Alto Medical Foundation (PAMF) San Carlos Center. San Carlos does not have a need for a hospital and certainly not for one that would bring on balance more negative than positive effects.
PAMF-SCC would harm San Carlos in the following ways:
Severe Traffic
1. Holly & Industrial and Brittan & Industrial would be the worst-hit intersections, but several San Carlos intersections would be at bottom-of-the-barrel service grades.
Doesnt Fit with Citys Own Plans
2. The city has paid for consultants to draw up recommendations that do not fit with a huge traffic and pollution causer like PAMF-SCC.
Local Businesses Constricted
3. Businesses in the vicinity of PAMF-SCC would need to pay for a full Environmental Impact Report (EIR) before any future expansion.
Health Problems
4. The hospital is planned for a site that currently stores toxic chemicals, is surrounded by freeway noise, and construction of the facility would create fumes and vibrations.
Higher Healthcare Costs
5. With the regional healthcare worker job market tight on supply, the ensuing bidding war would drive up costs for all consumers.
No Tax Benefit
6. As a nonprofit hospital, PAMF-SCC would not pay into the city coffers while benefiting from stretched city services.

7. With Holly Street so hard-hit, who would pay for the likely widening of Holly? What other hidden costs are there?
