Stop Starbucks from Disrespecting Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

continues to demean the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther
King, Jr. in this fortieth anniversary year of his
assassination.
Starbucks treats the federal holiday commemorating the
life of Dr. King as a second class holiday by failing
to pay the same time-and-a-half premium to workers
that the coffee giant pays on five other federal
holidays.
Dr. King struggled and died for his commitment to
racial and economic justice. The IWW Starbucks
Workers Union is inspired by King's commitment to
labor unions as a vehicle for social change as it
continues its struggle for a living wage, secure work
hours, and respect at Starbucks.
On January 19, 2009, Starbucks must end its disrespect
for Dr. King and the millions who cherish his memory
by paying the same holiday premium on MLK Day that it
pays for the other holidays.
