Stop the Continuing Attrocity: Ban Asbestos Production and Distribution by Canada

Asbestos has proven to be the most prolific industrial killer that the world has ever seen. While virtually all industrialized nations around the globe have already banned the continued use of asbestos, Canada remains one of the largest producers and exporters of this toxic material. Today, Canada most frequently traffics this devastatingly poisonous product into developing countries, whose populations lack the understanding and resources to effectively protect themselves. Canadas undaunted financial and political support of the asbestos industry belies the countrys general perception as a just and benevolent member of the global community. The Canadian government, specifically including the provincial leadership of Quebec (which currently houses the most active asbestos mines in the country) must:

1. Ban asbestos in all forms both in Canada and abroad;
2. Stop impairing international efforts to protect workers from asbestos exposure; and
3. Institute a just transition economic program for those Canadian workers and communities who currently rely on the asbestos trade for their own financial well-being.

No longer can the people of Canada and the world at large allow this country to continue to place commercial gains ahead of the value of human life. Moral nations do not prey upon the weak, the needy and the uninformed. Canada can no longer be allowed capriciously trade the welfare of others for its own financial enrichment. Canada must stop the exportation of death to people in the Third World.

Request for Popular Support

As a moral member of the human race, you are respectfully requested to voice your personal support for Canadas immediate repudiation and cessation of all activities heretofore taken by it in support of the asbestos industry, by signing the petition provided below. Once signed, this petition will be forwarded to various members of Canadas Parliament to demonstrate our unquestionable commitment to a safe, asbestos-free world.
