STOP THE RACIST TREATMENT OF CITYS MINORITIES AND THE ABRASIVE TRESSPASS POLICY
We write this petition to you in deep concern over the tresspass notice issued to Karthik Ramanathan, a respected member, who has worked on Human Rights issues in India
and the US, towards the end of February of 2010.
We understand that Karthik Ramanathan did not do any wrong and was also not allowed to appeal to the City Manager and City Council in writing, as per city Norms.
We are also concerned at the attempts to manipulate facts and pass crude judgements on Karthiks friendships with person(s) working at the Eden Prairie Community Center.
This, is particularly concerning, since the person concerned is a woman who is a friend of Karthiks and she herself has no problems communicating with Karthik.
The Management of the Community Center under Wendy Sevennich has no business passing such judgements on peoples personal freindships and relationships, and to tresspass an individual
for the same sets a new low for America's number one city.
We also would like to bring to your attention that Jay Lotthammer, Director of Parks and Recreation at Eden Prairie, has begun a increasing trend of tresspassing individuals from
Parks and recreational facilities in the City. This trend was not there before his joining the City in 2007. This combined with a lack of proper tracking of race data of individuals tresspassed
and a lack of a mechanism to make complaints of racial bias against City officials, creates a situation that is of concern to all city residents including its racial minorities.
Furthermore, We believe tresspassing individuals who did no wrong in the name of security purposes, is a self-defeating approach. This only increases insecurity among the city residents and breeds a climate
of distrust of city officials.
We hope the City Mayor Nancy Tyra-Lukens you will take this issue of increasingly tresspassing individuals in the citys public places seriously. We also hope that the Manager of the Eden Prairie Community Center will be made to apologise for this abrasive and very regressive behavior of trying to prevent women and men from engaging in free conversations.
