Respected Sir/Madam,
It came to my notice recently that in India, suicide is a punishable crime. I would like to remark that this is not fair and is a dark spot on the face of a democracy such as ours. I would like to bring to your notice that one's life is his own, it does not belong to the police. The police has absolutely no right to arrest the person concerned. Not only that, but the fact also remains that a person who attemts suicide is mentally disturbed, he/she requires counselling, not the hardships of prison. If he/she is thrown into prison, then it is not going to cure the concerned person...it will only result in making him/her worse than ever and cause him/her to attemt suicide again, and maybe even succeed. What suicidal persons need is not prison but a rehabilitation center. With proper counseeling only can they be cured. Therefore, I, on behalf of all those who have signed this petition request the authorities to make amends in this law.
