Dear Superintendent Brandt:
The Eastern Panhandle Trails Coalition is in support of the continuation of the Western Maryland Rail Trail beyond Pearre, MD to North Branch at Cumberland. This trail would come into Morgan County, WV three times over those wonderful high bridges and be an extremely attractive destination for hikers, bikers, and nature and history lovers. Our coalition is working to develop a network of trails in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia and with Morgan Countys many trail development assets, such as the National Park Services abandoned Western Maryland Railway, it could play a key role in the development of this regional trail network. In addition, the town of Paw Paw would stand to gain so much from the economic development spurred on by an influx of tourism in the area.
The members of our coalition come from Jefferson, Berkeley and Morgan Counties. Please be assured that we would welcome such a project, and if we can be of assistance, please let us know.
