New Jersey Residents for Turning Around the Statue of Liberty
Since our lady's dedication to the US from France in 1886, SHE HAS HAD HER BACK TO NEW JERSEY!
A federal court ruled in the 1990's that the immigration station on Ellis Island to be part of New York. However, the federal court ruled since the island was originally owned by New Jersey and has since expanded in to New Jersey's waters through the additions made by New York, that the physical island is the property of New Jersey. In short, when you are in the building, you are in New York and when you step outside, you are in New Jersey.
We think New Yorks claim over the actual statue, when it does not own the land, is ridiculous and the court ruling to have been won more out of the common misconception and heavy politicking than fact. In short New York had the money and the folklore behind them, NOT THE TRUTH!
The debate should have never been had. The Statue of Liberty is property of NO state, but that of our beloved country! What we propose is putting the Statue on a "swivel" (a mechanical Lazy Susan of sorts) and having the Statue turn 180 degrees once daily at 6pm, making the dramatic turn to one of the housing states, a marvel of modern engineering, visible for everyone to see at the end of their work day.
The time is now to right the wrongs... TURN HER AROUND!
