Terminate the employment of Mr Derek Walker

Subject: Replace Derek Walker - Director of Careers, Said Business School.

Sir,
We the undersigned request you to terminate the employment of Mr Derek Walker- Director of Careers at the Said Business School and replace him with a more competent and active professional for the following reasons.

1. We by signing confirm that most jobs acquired by our class had insignificant contributions from the Careers team. Most jobs advertised on the portal were not exclusive for Said Students or MBA candidates but were roles for lateral hires.

2. The Careers team discouraged people to be ambitious with their job search - People who persisted with their ambitions actually got the desired industry and profile.

3. There was no sincere effort in bringing active recruiters- many recruiters we met in the school were purely requested to 'present' but were not recruiting at all for the financial year. This used to be informed to the attendees during the presentation, but not beforehand- wasting valuable student time in mere face-saving measure.
A radically different approach was taken by the Judge Business School where the presentations were fewer - one or two a week, compared to daily at SBS.

4. We believe that the Buck should stop somewhere and Derek Walker is responsible for the performance of the Careers Department at Said Business School.

Sir, We ask you to take this drastic measure to bring in organisational change at this abysmal state when the Careers rank of our Business School in FT Rankings is #73, one below the University of Lancaster! The economist rankings rank the careers part of the Said Business School as >100, which means that we failed to make it in the first 100 schools! Faculty scores 52, personal development 24, Student quality 28, Student diversity 9!

This step of replacing Mr Derek Walker will enable the incoming dean Prof. Peter Tufano to work with an engaging Director of Careers which will encourage students to believe in the high standard of education that we are offered in the University of Oxford Said Business School, and pursue their dreams!
