The Irish Seal Sanctuary - Petition to An Taoiseach Mr Bertie Ahern TD

We, the undersigned, are very disappointed at the decision of the Government not to provide any assistance at all to the Irish Seal Sanctuary at Garristown, Co Fingal, thus closing them down, and preventing them from setting up the first ever proper Seal Sanctuary in the country at Donabate.
We feel especially disappointed, in view of the forthcoming International Year of ECO-Tourism in 2002, that the Government has missed a golden opportunity to spearhead a most worthwhile flagship project, which would have had all sorts of international spin-offs, and would bring nothing but PR credit on all concerned.
We urge you, Taoiseach, and ask you for the favour of taking the time to reconsider this small but very important ECO project, as it could be a permanent testament to the commitment of the Government of Ireland to the principles of:
2002: UN Year of Eco-Tourism
