The Lord of the Rings: A Better End to Saruman

Dear Mr. Jackson,
We, the fans of "The Lord of the Rings" thank you for remaining true to the spirit of the books throughout much of your cinematic translation of this classic work. We are grateful for the care and attention to detail that has been the hallmark of these films. We completely understand that many aspects of the books could not be included in the finished movies, but we would like you to understand that there is one change we do not agree is in the spirit of the original text, nor in the tenor of the rest of the film. Please know that we, the undersigned, are extremely disappointed at the intended change in the death of Saruman and the unsophisticated vampire "in-joke" by which his character meets his end in the film by being impaled upon a spike.
We urgently request that this decision be reconsidered while there is still time to change it. We request that the cinematic rendition of Saruman's death be in closer accord with Tolkien's original text, understanding that there would be changes because of the truncation of the story line.
Below is a brief list of elements that we want to see included, with the understanding that the requirements of film length and current storyline may or may not accommodate them :
- That Saruman should be given a chance to repent of his evil.
- That he should reject that opportunity.
- That Wormtongue should subsequently betray Saruman.
- That the physical effects of Saruman's death should more closely match the description given in the text.
We thank you for the contribution of your considerable talents to these films, and for your serious consideration of this request.
