Residents and people of and for Sullivan County - STOP THE IMPORTATION OF GARBAGE AND THE INFLATION OF FEES. Many of us are against an inflation of costs that - As of April 1st 2006 - the Sullivan County Landfill will collect. We have been paying $1.25 per bag of garbage, which will now be $2.50. The costs to dispose of tires is nearly trippling! A new fee of $35/ton of scrap metal will also be imposed - this means they collect the people's fee AND get money when they cash in on the scrap metal! Also, appliances and things of this nature will have increased fee's. OUR landfill HAD enough space to last us nearly 30 years, before the importation of garbage. We need to arm our local representatives with our support and petition our legislators to stop the importation of garbage and reject the increase of fees as they are. Many Councilman and Supervisors of our towns are feeling our woes and are on our side. See also the article in the Sullivan County Democrat - Garbage Concerns Lead to Trashing of Legislator - to see what Highland Supervisor Steve Barnes, Councilman Don Rupp and Councilman Robert Burrow had to say about these issues. The point is... if they can't help us, we have to start helping ourselves and this is a start. Don't be afraid to tell them who you are and that this is YOUR COUNTY! Please, sign this petition to tell our Legislators that we've had enough of every one else's GARBAGE!
