The Texas Hill Country Trail

Outlined at www.hillcountrytrail.org is a model for building a trail connecting Pedernales Falls State Park and Enchanted Rock State Natural Area using existing conservation easement law.
This letter reminds the President and other interested parties that another Texas President, LBJ, whose house the trail will pass not far from, on October 2, 1968, signed into existence the National Trails System Act.
It was this act that led to the Pacific Crest and Appalachian Trails that cross the US in the east and west. This issue was important enough to President Johnson to as early as 1966 be mentioning the name of the Appalachian Trail in his Annual Message to Congress concerning extending Federal support to the "hiking path from Maine to Georgia."
The signers of this petition are from the Hill Country area of the proposed trail. Others are not but still showing their support. This model of providing more trails and preserving cultural and natural heritage is more than just a Texas issue. We hope you will work with us to make this trail a reality.
