We, the citizens of the Kensington area, support revitalization of our local commercial areas, with improved retail, restaurant and pedestrian access, as well as public green spaces. We support most of the Kensington Sector Plan.

However, we believe the greatly increased density and 75-foot maximum building height in the Plan are not in keeping with the character of the area and of the historic Town.

The Plan calls for a substantial increase in population and density in the center of our area - primarily in multi-family units. Single-family homes in Kensington will be outnumbered by apartments for the first time. Traffic is estimated to increase by one-third, and schools could become more crowded. This proposed density increase would change the character and quality of life of Kensington.

Therefore we ask the Montgomery County Council to revisit the issue of maximum building height and density, and to lower the building height to a maximum of 45 feet and lower overall density in the Plan.
