University of Phoenix does NOT appreciate their Veterans!

It use to be that every Veteran would have to verify his or her enrollment on the last day of the month. Depending on whether it was verified online or via phone it only took 5-7 days to process before the money was deposited into the Veterans bank account. It was very simple and convenient. Now, University of Phoenix has decided they will not verify students status until after they completed each course. VA Benefits will go from month to month to every 5 weeks- that is a loss of 2 whole payments a year.
Not only are the Veterans losing money that they have earned by serving their country, the turnover period has increased dramatically. Instead of the 5-7 processing days, the VA now has 30 days to process a payment. Not only are they making these Veterans wait longer for their entitlements but the payments will be sporadic, which can pose a problem for people who depend on the money.
You also must know that if any of these Veterans are cash paying students who rely on their GI Bill to pay for school this will also pose another problem. The University requires students to pay for each class on week before it begins; with the new system that will be impossible because the payment is not guaranteed and may not arrive until 3 weeks after the Veteran has begun his next class. The University of Phoenix will most likely delay that class from beginning for nonpayment which could put the Veteran in nonattendance for missing 21+ days.
Does this sound fair to you? How about the convenience?
In a letter written to the students the University states:
With the new automated VA payment system VA ONCE, payments will be generated within 3-5 days after the submission of the enrollment dates to the VA regional processing unit. We do not anticipate any interruption to your monthly entitlement.
Another advantage of confirmed enrollment is you will NOT have to call or use the Web Automated Verification of Enrollment (WAVE) system to verify enrollment status on a monthly basis.
Lies! I spoke with the VA directly and they stated they have 30 days to process enrollment with the new system, not 3-5.
WAVE was never a disadvantage; any Veteran can attest to how easy it is.
Please know that this is not something that is a VA change- ONLY the Univeristy of Phoenix has made this change.
When my husband called and expressed his concerns about the way he receives his GI Bill and was shot down: the University is not interested in their Veterans opinions. It is time to take a stand and tell the University NO!
If you are interested in the Universitys side of the story before you sign I urge you to call them at 877-572-7232 or email them at [email protected] and ask them to explain how they think this new system is going to better serve those who have laid their lives on the line to protect them and this Country. It is important to know both sides of the story before making a decision. Although I feel I have given a truthful account of the situation I feel it only fair to allow the University to defend itself and the accusations. We thank you for your continued support of our Troops and Veterans!
