UPD Excessive Use of Force at Kerry Speech

I am appalled at the level of force used by University Police in the detainment of UF student Andrew Meyer at the John Kerry speech at the University of Florida on Monday September 17, 2007. The police officers who restrained and then tasered him while he was on the ground and helpless, and begging not to be tasered, should be suspended immediately. The incident should also be reviewed for further legal action against the officers and the University of Florida.
While I understand that law enforcement is a challenging and often thankless job, it is unacceptable in a free society for police to use a weapon such as a taser gun on a citizen for no other reason than the convenience of quickly silencing him or her, as was clearly the case in this matter.
