Saves gasoline (do not have to drive distance)

Easy to exchange ideas and information via phone and/or fax
World Wide access

-Easy access to the people you need to contact with.

-Less effort in using transportation just to meet an individual personally.
-You can just stay at home and use a telephone or a cellphone if you want to talk with someone.
-Enable end users to communicate electronically and share hardware, software, and data resources.
-Enable a company to process transactions immediately from many remote locations, exchange business documents electronically with customers and suppliers, or remotely monitor and control production processes.
-Interconnect the computer systems of a business so their computing power can be shared by end users throughout an enterprise.
-Enhance collaboration and communication among individuals both inside and outside an organization.
-Speed
-Develops new products and inventions

Disadvantages:

-Cultural Barrier
-Misunderstanding
-Prank calls
-Can also be a source of low grades if abused
-Sometimes expensive
-high electric bills

Remote areas do not have access 

Remote areas may not be able to afford necessary equipment
Cannot see whom you are speaking with
Cannot see facial expressions, therefore leads to misunderstandings
