World of Warcraft - AutoTravel and Movement Functions

In the upcoming (or already patched, as the case may be) World of Warcraft 1.6, the travel functions will be locked out, requiring a keypress to use them. Many feel that this is an unwise move by Blizzard and the reasons are as follows:



1) The functions will still be able to receive keypresses after the patch to move, this means that botters (even after 1.6) will still be able to send keypresses to the client unhindered. There are undetectable ways of doing this and even ways to stop Blizzard's client from snooping the user's PC to see if they are doing it. In essence, patch 1.6 will make no difference to botters whatsoever and they will continue to do what they have done and with the same level of ease. This is not the way to deter botters.



2) A number of players aren't pleased with this scenario thanks to the effect it will have on the AutoTravel AddOn (which can walk static, pre-mapped paths only). Either out of the monotony of having to travel the same roads over and over or for the disabled (visually, dexterously or otherwise) it's a fantastic accessibility tool that makes the game a joy for them to play, whereas otherwise they might not have been able to so painlessly. However, this wonderful tool will cease to function once the aforementioned patch is live.



The following propositions have been made by members of the player and developer community, we ask Blizzard to look over them.



o The patch allows the movement functions to remain as they are. At least until one of the below has been implemented.



o An official implementation of AutoTravel, as much of the groundwork has already been laid out in AutoTravel itself. It would not be difficult for them to allow this within their game. This would make a worthy feature and it would satisfy those who're displeased with the aforementioned changes.



o Mount riders in every town that can ferry a user back and forth between places, akin to the Flight (taxi) system but at walking speed.



These are not believed to be unreasonable requests, if nothing else we would like an open dialogue with Blizzard on the matter so that the overall game can be made a better experience for all.
