Dear President Pascual,
The history of UP Cebu is fraught with several events when politics hindered the development of the College. This may be one reason why it is not yet a constituent university despite its being the oldest campus outside Manila and its location in one of the fastest growing cities in the country.
Thus, we were elated when the Board of Regents granted autonomy to UP Cebu, after 3 years of preparation by the UP Cebu constituency under the leadership of Dean Enrique Avila, and with the help of three former UP Presidents, a former Chief Justice, and respected individuals in the Cebu community. We looked at it as a chance for the College to finally get on its feet after many years.
We would like to express our full support to a continuation of the development of UP Cebu under the leadership of Dean Avila, whose efforts paved the way for the realization of our college autonomy. We believe that a change in the leadership will take up organizational energies which could otherwise be harnessed for the realization of our development goals.
With the investigation on the charges made by a minority of UP Cebu constituents against Dean Avila, we earnestly look forward to a decision that will build up momentum on our current path and not derail it. We ask for your support in strengthening and giving stability to the institutions of governance in the College, and not undermining it. We trust that under your leadership, politics will not block the growth of this autonomous college once more. Thank you for your support.
