The Town of Yorktown does not have a Skatepark. A Skatepark is a designated area specifically built for the use of skateboards. This is a rapidly growing sport and is almost as popular as mainstream sports such as baseball and football. Skateboarding gives the youth of today an alternate sport outside of the team sanctioned sports. Skating also helps keep our children occupied with something to strive for rather than getting in trouble and breaking laws.
Thousands of towns across the country have parks just like these, but Yorktown does not. The building of a park such as this is crucial. Throughout Yorktown, there are individuals interested in this sport with nowhere to legally and safely ride skateboards.
We, the undersigned, as citizens of Yorktown Heights, New York, recognize the need for and the benefits of a Skatepark and believe that our Town Officials and County Legislator should parcel a portion of public land for this use, and fund, build and maintain a SkatePark as it would a tennis court, basketball court, swimming area, playground, baseball diamond or other general use public area.

Might want to look into the successful construction of the skateboard park in Croton on Riverside Drive. I recall that this was built about 4 years ago with the very same concerns and I believe that it was first petitioned by the teens themselves. You may
