Memorandum by organizations and political forces in Melbourne, Victoria Australia to The National Elections commission

Subject: Participation of Sudanese nationals living in Australia in Sudans general election.

Universal Declaration of Human Rights
The will of the people shall be the basis of the authority of government; this will shall be expressed in periodic and genuine elections which shall be by universal and equal suffrage and shall be held by secret vote or by equivalent free voting procedures.
Article 21(3)





With much appreciation and respect we address you today on the issues regarding the current processes and schedules for the Presidential election as well as for the referendum deciding on the future of southern Sudan.

We , Australian Sudanese and Sudanese nationals residing in the city of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia representing political parties, organizations, communities groups and national figures, Would like to draw your attention through this memorandum for our rights of participation in the coming general elections, envisaged by the universal declaration of human rights which dictate the followings in Article 21(3) : The will of the people shall be the basis of the authority of government; this will shall be expressed in periodic and genuine elections which shall be by universal and equal suffrage and shall be held by secret vote or by equivalent free voting procedures.

And according to a provision in the Constitution of the Republic of Sudan 2005, which reads the following in Article 41:-


Every Sudanese citizen has the right to participate in public affairs through voting, as prescribed by law. In addition the Article 41 read also: Every citizen who reached the age specified by the Constitution or the law has the right to elect and be elected in periodic elections that ensure free expression of voters will and be conducted in accordance with a secret ballot. Henceforth, we the undersigned would like to extend to you the following demands:

Due to the high density of Sudanese nationals living in Australia who met the conditions for participation in the election, we call on your honor to allocate enough centers for registration and voting in all major cities in Australia so that we are allowed to vote.


Due the urgency of the topic and critical time we appreciate your prompt action.
