A Dame Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for the actress Maureen Lipman.

We the undersigned request that the film, television and theatre actress Maureen Lipman is made a Dame Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.

Maureen Lipman was born on 10th May 1946 and is probably one of the best character actresses around. She has starred in numerous films, television programmes and stage plays over the years. One of Maureen's earlier roles on television was starring in the sitcom Agony (1979-1981), playing agony aunt Jane Lucas, who had got a troubled private life. She also starred in the television sitcom All at No 20 for which she won a TVTimes Best Comedy Actress award and she was also awarded the Laurence Olivier Theatre Award or Best Comedy Performance in 1985 for See How They Run. The one role that made Maureen a household name though was playing Beattie in a long running series of television commercials for British Telecom.

Maureen has already received a CBE in 1999 for her services to acting but we feel it is time to make her a Dame.
