A Petition to Change the HMS Dress Code

We the undersigned students of Heritage Middle School have come together before you to request that the administration of Heritage Middle School take all the necessary action to bring about the following changes in the HMS dress code:

a) that students (girls particularly) may wear shorts or skirts above the knee as long as they are no more than four inches above the knee when sitting.
b) that students may wear jeans that have holes in the knee.

We understand that, by enforcing a dress code, the teachers and staff of Heritage Middle School only wish to promote an atmosphere that is conductive to learning. However, we the undersigned believe that the rules have become a little too strict. We dont believe that students (girls particularly) should have to wear jeans during the warmer months because theyre not allowed to wear more stylish shorts. Furthermore, we dont believe that students knees are a distraction in the learning environment, and dont see anything wrong with having holes in our jeans.

By signing and submitting this petition, no disrespect to the Heritage Middle School administration is meant. We only wish that the administration will consider our requests and change the dress code for the 06/07 school year.
